Review- Voyeur by Fiona Cole

I didn’t know she was my student the first time I paid to watch her at Voyeur.

Once she walked into my classroom, another smiling college freshman, I knew I should stop going. Stop watching.

But I couldn’t do it. Everything about her makes me want more, and once I realize she wants me too, the temptation becomes irresistible.

The worst part is that she has no idea her professor is the one watching behind the glass.

I just have to hope that once she finds out the truth, she wants the same thing I do. Because now that I've seen all of her, I can't look away.

My Review
I thought waiting a little bit to write my review would ease my dislike for this this book, but it’s been over a week since I finished Voyuer, and my dislike for it is still as strong as ever.

Now I know I’m one of the VERY FEW who didn’t like this book, so this review is clearly how I feel about it, so don’t let this review deter you from giving this book a try, after all it does have a bunch of 5 star reviews.

So, lets jump right in…

Ok I was so freaking excited to read this book.  I have been looking for a v
oyeur type book since I finished the Innocence Series by Alessandra Torre, which I read over a year ago.

When I read the synopsis to Voyeur I was ALL IN.  The fact that I was so excited to read this book, and it fell so short, added to my dislike.
Voyeur follows two characters, Oaklyn and Cal or Dr. Pierce.  It switches from each of their POV’s.  Oaklyn is a freshman in college who struggles with being able to afford living on campus, along with just paying for college in general.  Oaklyn is first described to us, the reader, as a good girl.  She’s pays her way through college, a good student, she wants to do big things with her life, she's not the type of girl who sleeps around.  She even said she wasn’t like super experienced with guys, though she did have sexual encounters.  To my surprise, when Oaklyn’s friend tells her about the sex club her uncle owns, Oaklyn is on board.  It took a couple of days to decide on working there, but once there she didn’t even ease into it…. So, 1-2 chapters in, the good girl is now a worker at this sex voyeur club, performing sexual acts with strangers, and is totally fine with it.  (ANNOYING)

Enter Dr. Pierce, or Cal.  As soon as we meet him, we see that he has issues with being touched.  He gets all panicky and has a type of PTSD reaction whenever he is touched, especially in a sexual manor.  So, he can totally give sexually, but can not receive.  I personally guessed right away what made him this way.  And though I try hard to not be insensitive, I just felt he came off as a weak man.  I know he went through some horrible shit, so granted anyone would probably have the same issues, but the beauty of reading a fiction book is that I get to form a liking for the perfect type of male character (in my opinion of course) and Cal just didn’t do it for me.  He came off so wimpy.  It was a huge turn off for me, plus he was basically a virgin.  I CAN’T.

So, fast forward, turns out Cal is Oaklyn’s teacher, and Oaklyn winds up being his student assistant.  He knows that Oaklyn works at Voyeur, but she doesn’t know he’s a member, because he hides behind the one-way glass any time she performs for him.  Mind you there were instances where she bumped into Cal while she was working, but because he wore a hat she didn’t know it was him.  COME ON.  STOP IT.

This book was just unrealistic in so many ways.  The hero was just not the type of hero I like to read.  The girl went from innocent to like a sexual goddess in 0.2 seconds.  And the whole finding out scene, where Oaklyn finds out about Cal being a member, was just stupid.  The only reason I’m giving this book a 2 instead of a 1 is because the sex scenes were VERY HOT, which is the only thing I actually liked in this book.  This was my first time reading Fiona’s books, and I’m not sure if I would read another.

Like I said, this book does have a lot of 5 stars, and is getting a lot of hype.  So just because it didn’t work for me doesn’t mean you wont like it.  Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me.

Review- Such Dark Things by Courtney Evan Tate

From New York Times bestseller Courtney Cole, writing as Courtney Evan Tate, comes the psychological thriller that will keep readers up turning pages long into the night, SUCH DARK THINGS! "Written in breathless style, this page-turner relies on quick thrills, surprise twists...[for] readers seeking a fast entertaining tale..."(Publishers Weekly). Grab your copy of SUCH DARK THINGS today!

Dr. Corinne Cabot is living the American dream. She’s a successful ER physician in Chicago who’s married to a handsome husband. Together they live in a charming house in the suburbs. But appearances can be deceiving—and what no one can see is Corinne’s dark past. Troubling gaps in her memory mean she recalls little about a haunting event in her life years ago that changed everything.

She remembers only being in the house the night two people were found murdered. Her father was there, too. Now her father is in prison; she hasn’t been in contact in years. Repressing that terrifying memory has caused Corinne moments of paranoia and panic. Sometimes she thinks she sees things that aren’t there, hears words that haven’t been spoken. Or have they? She fears she may be losing her mind, unable to determine what’s real and what’s not.

So when she senses her husband’s growing distance, she thinks she’s imagining things. She writes her suspicions off to fatigue, overwork, anything to explain what she can’t accept—that her life really isn’t what it seems.

My Review
This was my first time reading any of Courtney's books, and I have to be honest, I didn't love it.  I'm no stranger to psych thrillers, though I do tend to read more romance.  To me, Such Dark Things wasn't much of a thriller.  It was more of an romantic mystery to me.  My problem was that I personally couldn't connect to the characters, which in turn made it so I really couldn't connect with the story.  I found myself skimming around 50%, and I really only continued because I wanted to see how the story ended.  For me, the big twist at the end just didn't make sense.

Such Dark Things, follows Dr. Corrine Cabot who is put in a mental institute for trying to commit suicide.  She has no recollection of doing so. Her husband at first seems like the perfect caring husband, but really he turned out to be a selfish grade A a-hole.  Let me also say, I am a HUGE fan of cheating books.  That being said, this was just wrong.  Corrine's husband was just selfish, and the cheating wasn't warranted in my opinion. The story is told in dual pov's and switches from present, to before the attempted suicide.  Like I previously said, I just didn't connect.  The writing was fine, and I truly did want to like this book, it just wound up not being for me.

Review - Tangled Love by Haley Jenner

Codi Rein is a means to an end. A bloody and vengeful penance for wrong doing. She was our way to inflict pain and suffering on those who took away what was most important to us.
She was supposed to be a no one. Insignificant.
She wasn’t supposed to make me smile.
She wasn’t supposed to make me laugh.
She sure wasn’t supposed to make me feel anything other than hate.
She wasn’t supposed to make me love her.
She was a means to an end. Now the bloody and vengeful end looks to be mine. Because it now comes down to love or loyalty and it’s on me to decide what reigns absolute; heart or family.

Fallen Reign by S.L. Jennings

Yesterday, I had the audacity to imagine a future.

One that didn't include hunting demons hellbent on destroying humanity or being used as a pawn for my father's revenge. One comprised of a home and a family and all the things I'd longed for as a broken child.

Then in the blink of a silver speckled eye, my foolish hope was extinguished, and my world came crumbling down.

We stood strong. We fought. We lost.

I lost.

Legion, the demon I dared to love, was gone.

Now I'm going to tear myself in two and do the unthinkable to find him. I'm going to put my trust in his brother--his enemy--and make a deal with the Devil. And while his darkness and depravity echo mine, I know this won't end well for either of us.

My body may survive, maybe even my soul. I can't promise the same for my heart. This time, I will not fail. I will not hesitate. And if it comes down to it, I'll be the weapon I was created to be. I will follow the code of the Se7en and do what I should have done when we had the chance.

Kill one to save a million.
Kill him to save the world.

Buddy Review - Pestilence by Laura Thalassa

They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she'll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.
