Buddy Review for Just Exes by Charity Ferrell

Title: Just Exes
Series: Blue Beech #3
Author: Charity Ferrell
Genre: New Adult Romance
 Release Date: August 30, 2018

Running into an ex you haven’t seen in nearly a decade is never a good time.
Running into your ex while he’s arresting you is humiliating.
The handcuffs close around my fists at the same time he promises to hate me until he takes his last breath.
I can’t blame him. He pleaded for me not to walk away.  He doesn’t know leaving him broke my heart as much as it did his.
It wasn’t for me. Rather, it was for someone else.

I skipped town after Hurricane Lauren obliterated my heart.
Coming home was a hard choice to make. Arresting her isn’t.
She has no idea of the demons I carry with me now. No idea that I’m a new man.
Two women ruined me.
One I gave my heart to.
The other punished me for it.

Our Reviews

Before we jump into our buddy review here’s the convo M & I had before starting Just Exes by Charity Ferrell

J- Hey so I finished Just Exes last night
Well you’re fucking rude
Reallllly fucking rude

M- Lol what did you rate it. I was the first to review on amazon right now lol

J- Lol! So I’m going to go with a 4.5. I can’t even explain why it wasn’t a 5.  I just know I loved Dallas' book from the start, and idk maybe for me this was a little slower in the beginning.  Gage's story broke my heart though.

M-I love Luke

J- Oh yesssss he was hot I want him to have a book ASAP

M- Yeah Dallas was yum. I'm rating Just Exes a 4

J- But I really loved it. You know what I love ab her books, like some areas it’s light and fun, and then there’s also serious shit that happens. And like the switch from easy to serious is like written so well that I never find it like cheesy or too much.
I like stories like that. That are light but also really serious.
What makes you give it a 4. What was missing for you?

M- Ugh why does something have to be missing asshole

OK you’re right. So what makes it a 4 for you?

M-For me a 5 star is like OMG I'm bugging, that's all
Yes I agree it's not cheesy at all

J- Sometimes there’s no specific reason for me I just know it’s not a 5.
Who are you hoping for for the next book?

M- Yeah same I did love Gage and by the end I was loving Luke

J- Who do you like better, Gage or Dallas?

M- Stupid question for real, what are we 5 on the fucking playground

J- Dallas is my baby daddy. I fucking love him and his mean ass.

M- You're going off task you idiot
Wow. You’re fucking rude today

J- Lmao
Ok so yay we both liked the book. Charity is for sure an author we agree on so that’s good. Just gonna say it again, I FOUND HER. So I get the credit.

M- Yes you do asshole

J- I’m adding that in the review to show everyone how mean you are to me

M- I would expect nothing less.

J's Review
✰✰✰✰ - 4.5

"This familiar yet unfamiliar man no longer looks at me with love. It's hated. Pure, unadulterated hatred"

Just Exes was such a great read.  Once I knew Charity was coming out with a new book I knew I needed to read it.  Just like her last book, Just Exes did not disappoint.  Lauren and Gage had a history.  Everyone in town remembered them as the high school sweethearts they once were.  When Lauren leaves Gage after high school, -with hardly an explanation- Gage’s love for Lauren quickly shifts to hate.

Gageeeee…. Gage killed me.  Years later he’s no longer the boy Lauren left.  He’s now a man who has clearly been through some serious things in life.  He’s guarded.  He’s alone.  He’s angry.  Gages story broke my heart.  I was just hoping for him to finally get his happy ending.  Did I mention he’s a cop??? Gage is so delish it’s not even funny!

One thing about Charity is that she knows how to write a heroine.  Lauren is my type of chick.  She's a wise-ass, funny, caring, and will tell it to you how it is.  I loved the banter between Gage and Lauren.

Just Exes is the story of two people who try to hard to fight the pull they have between each other.  It’s funny, sexy and serious all rolled into one great story.  Charity has a way of writing a story that seems light and fun and turns into serious and heartbreaking.  Its got all the things a great story need.  If you haven’t already, you should read this book!

M's Review
Charity Ferrell was a new author to my blog partner and myself when we read Just One Night. We surprisingly (and I say that in the nicest way we've never agreed on a new author) LOVED the book. Of course when I realized there was a book prior to Just One Night featuring Dallas's brother Hudson I went back and read that.

Now we have Just Exes which features Lauren, the younger sister of Dallas and Hudson. For some reason I usually don't have an interest in reading "the sisters book". I don't know why, I'm a complete weirdo but I'm generally never interested. However, I feel like the way Charity developed Lauren's character in the prior two books was perfect. We didn't know too much about her so I was really excited to read her story.

Lauren and Gage were high school sweethearts until Lauren broke Gage's heart without any warning or reason at all. Gage winds up moving to Chicago leaving his old life behind until his fathers health starts to deteriorate. Now Gage is back and he's clearly not happy to see Lauren again.

"You used to know me. You used to course through my motherfucking veins." I push off the wall and stand straight. "You left me. You left me, and I ran and got hurt worse than any girl breaking my heart could ever cause. It's not about you." I throw my arm out and gesture to the room. "Nothing going on in m life is about you anymore."

This whole time I'm thinking to myself what could be the reason for Lauren to break up with Gage, and I have to admit I came up with a few theories and was really hoping I was wrong because they just seemed so obvious and common to me. I was happy to see that I was wrong and I did not predict her reasoning at all. So yay for that. I don't want to give anything away but once again Charity nailed it. I really enjoy her books and I will be harassing her to see if Luke's book is next because he's my new boyfriend!!!
