My Review of While I Was Away by Stylo Fantome

You were in a car accident.

They say true love can last forever.

You hit your head, which caused your brain to swell.

Can span any distance, stretch across time, last beyond death.

The pressure against your skull damaged your brain.

Which leads one to wonder ...

The damage left you unresponsive to most kinds of stimuli.

If you fall in love in your dreams,

And this unresponsive state is what's known as a coma.

Can you find that love when you wake up?

My Review
4 Stars

So I've been in a bit of a book funk thanks to my blog partner Jill. I can't even say it's a true book funk but more like I just didn't feel like reading in general. When I received the ARC of While I Was Away I was super excited because I knew this would get me out of my funk. Stylo is a go to author for me and once again she didn't disappoint with While I Was Away.

I first read a glimpse of While I Was Away in Checking In and I was super excited for this book to come out. This book is nothing like any of the other books I've read by Stylo Fantome.

Adele is in a coma and has found herself in a different world so to speak. Everything in this world seems magical and Adele has a hard time understanding what is happening to her. Jones is somewhat of a guide to her in this world and Adele soon falls for him.
"Why am I here Jones? she asked bluntly.
"Because you don't know how to leave, " he gave his standard answer.
"And you won't tell me."
"I'm unable to tell you - there's a difference."
Back in the real world we have Charlie, Adele's very recent ex boyfriend and her three older brothers August, River, and Ocean. We can't forget about Adele's sassy best friend Zoey. We get to see their perspectives as they stand by Adele while she is "away".

I've always wondered what people go through when they're in a coma. Do they dream, do they have any brain activity whatsoever? I really loved how it was portrayed in this story. Overall, this a story about soulmates and how wherever you are, and whatever lifetime you're in, soulmates will always find one another.
