The Heartache Duet by Jay McLean

Heartache and Hope (book 1)

First and Forever (book 2)
Amazon (free on KU) -

Duet Synopsis:
Ava Diaz needs saving.
She just doesn’t know it yet.
Just like she doesn’t know a thing about the boy she sits next to on the first day of senior year.
He thinks she’s a brat.
She thinks he’s entitled.
Maybe first impressions don’t always last…
Because Connor Ledger’s about to save her.
He just doesn’t know why.

“It’s not stupid to hope, Ava. Sometimes hope is the only thing that gets us through to the next day.”

Going into the Heartache duet, I was skeptical.  It was super hyped up by many bloggers/readers in the community, which always leaves me assuming I’m probably not going to like the book.  But low and behold, I started the first book Heartache and Hope, and did not put it down until it was finished.  I’ve read Mrs. McLean’s books in the past many years ago, so I honestly didn’t remember her writing but GOD can she write.  I was immersed in a story of heartache, not able to stop reading until I had devoured both books.  There are honestly very few books (in my opinion) whose characters are completely memorable.  Both Connor and Ava have stories that aren’t for the faint of heart.  I hurt for them.  I cried for them.  I love them. At times I cried for like 20 minutes straight.  Not sobbing but genuinely sad for the characters and their circumstances.  If there’s anything you can take away from the Heartache duet, it would be to never give up on your true love.  And no matter how corny that might sound, this book is proof that real love is something that’s impossible to let go of.  Connor and Ava were proof of that.

The Heartache Duet is a beautifully written story that completely holds you prisoner until you devour both stories, and even when you finish you still want more.  I don’t think I’ll ever be over their story, and I seriously can’t say enough how amazing this book was.  The writing was perfection all the way to the last page.  I devoured this story and still, a week later I can’t stop thinking about its characters.  Even if you aren’t a huge fan of NA, I promise you, you will love this duet.  Jay, you have literally created a forever fan in me. You are amazing, your words are addicting.  I’m so happy I gave this duet a chance, it’s for sure one of my favorite reads of 2019!
